ABOUT

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate…

Established in Los Angeles, California, the Women’s Mosque of America (WMA) is the nation’s first women-led Muslim house of worship. Founded on principles of equity, scholarship, and spiritual leadership, WMA creates space for Muslim women to lead and participate fully in religious life.

Since its founding, WMA has trained over 250 women to deliver the khutbah (sermon), lead prayer, recite the adhan (call to prayer), and assume roles of religious leadership—often for the first time. Through women-led Jumuʿah services, Qur’an literacy programming, and community-based learning, WMA has contributed to a growing movement centered on Muslim women’s voices, knowledge, and authority.

WMA’s work reflects a broader commitment to expanding access to sacred spaces, cultivating inclusive religious leadership, and sustaining a legacy of community-rooted scholarship and practice.
